Resolving To Stop Resisting Our Bodies

I’ll never forget doing an interview with body acceptance coach Kristina Bruce, who said, “Body acceptance isn’t about giving up, it’s about no longer resisting”She nailed it.  As we continue living day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute, we make our lives more difficult by constantly trying to resist the signals our bodies are giving us, and instead trying to override those signals with something we believe to be “Better”.  This is generally in the form of resisting certain types of foods, or amounts of foods, or resisting slowing down, and resisting rest.  All of these are taking us further from what, in the end, is what we need; listening to our body and achieving acceptance.

Here are some ways body acceptance can help you, today;

  • By accepting yourself and your body, today, you won’t feel obligated to resist your natural inclination to do certain things, be a certain way, laugh, cry, just be you.
  • By accepting your body you will find it easier to actually tune into the subtle signals your body is giving you, all day, every day.
    • Instead of resisting that signal of hunger, you’ll embrace it, knowing that if your body is giving a signal, it probably means it truly needs nourished
    • Instead of resisting that lacking signal of fullness, you will remind yourself how good it feels to be full, satisfied, nourished and sustained, and you will remind yourself you have permission to eaet the food later, should you desire it again.
    • Instead of resisting that signal to slow down and rest, you will embrace it and feel better and more energized afterwards, both physically and mentally.
  • By accepting that you are human, and not perfect, you will have less guilt, shame, and more self-compassion when you do something you regret, or get something wrong
  • By accepting, you aren’t using energy, precious energy, to resist, and this feels damn good.
